I have found that people are prepared to travel further than than to take part in certain nudist events. For example, nudist swimming, some people travel up to 50 miles just to swim in a pool naked (I guess that is about tge distance between regular swimming events). I’ve been on an organised nudist walk (it was only 5 miles or so from me) but discovered people had traveled more than 50 miles just to go for a 5 or so mile walk. And there is a regular disco starkers in London. Haven’t been but I’m guessing people travel even greater distances just to wobble their wobbly bits to some cheesy music! The point is people seem to go out of their way to do anything that involves them being naked!
The question I really have is what do you really have in mind for these new naked experiments?
::1. Public transport is something I think I would really struggle with. There’s a key difference between being nude in the outdoors and other public spaces. I think this comes down to the difference between exhibitionism and simple chosing to be nude. On public transport it’s always going to be seen as deliberate exhibitionism. I’m pretty certain you would get asked to leave!
2. Is actually easier. If I remember correctly there is a photo of someone naked in a beer garden on the NDL. There’s a pub in London that’s does a naked night and definitely a group that goes for naked meals. The subtle difference is that eating/drinking is a social activity. So it makes it your choice.3. In terms of sports I’ve done cycling, swimming, walking and volleyball naked with members of the public or in front of them. Also done yoga and t’ai chi naked but not with a group. I think sports are very easy as it’s not really deliberate exhibitionism plus people have become used to seeing it all!
Hhmm everyday things. It a good one but it would have to be in public view. I’ve done painting naked (makes sense no clothes to clean) and housework naked. But it’s not necessarily in public view. Also some naked gardening. But I would struggle filling up the car with gas (petrol). I guess it’s possible- just drive in naked, pay at tge machine, drive away and try not to worry about the security cameras, the person watching you from the kiosk and anyone else who might drive in! It’s actually a good dare!
::The situation that people find the most easiest to be naked are taking part in indoor activities where everyone is already naked and there are no non-naked people to see them: swimming, sauna, naked yoga. There are many opportunities for these in the UK. The problem is to come up with an activity that people can join in which makes some sense to do naked if you aren’t going to hire a swimming pool or book a spa.
The situation that most people find the hardest to be naked is in a public place where anyone can see them and they are the only one naked.
::There are plenty of new places:
1. Transportation brings up on a bus/train/plane/ferry/hovercraft etc.
2. Eating/drinking brings up in a cafe, ordering a pint at a pub or having a meal at a restaurant. Last one is difficult but not impossible. I’ve heard of a group that goes out for naked meals.
3. Sports brings up every single sport there is. I’ve yet to find one that people haven’t tried naked.
4. Inside pictures public buildings covers the whole spectrum from a library/museum to a police station/court house. You are probably not aiming for the later though.
I note that one man has walked the length of the UK naked (but he did end up in court a few times). Another farmer in Germany has decided to never wear clothes (though he did end up in court a few times where they decided to make a ruling that he could stick to!)
::@Ed there are various topics going on to discuss going on walks etc. It’s your site so if you want to create a sports section you could try – I’m not quite convinced it would add much to the topics that people are interested in. You could add a naked sports dare and see what people come up with (naked skydiving perhaps!). But I think it should be evidence of a sport in an outdoor or public place.
::@Ed oh I see, you’ve already added Naked in a lift: With the doors CLOSED! Most lifts have mirrors in them so it’s easier to take a selfie.
That’s actually pretty easy. I thought it was going to have to be a video of you taking the lift down, leaving it and then taking the stairs back up again. But with the doors closed, it’s not really that much different from being naked in a changing room unless you chose a particularly packed lift (elevator) to take your photo in!
::@SimplyCait actually one of the categories I was thinking of was trying to get as many different naked sports in there. This was inspired by seeing a naked paddle boarder go by. This could be an open category. Already we have naked walking, cycling and swimming on this site. But there are no end of other sports that people enjoy doing naked. Actually down by the river a naked couple started doing some naked yoga poses and many people will have tried naked yoga (well at least at home like myself)!
::@Ed a statue is considerably different proposition to a traffic light. It gives you an option to pose like a statue or take some of the statue’s location and circumstances into consideration. I agree that outside a pub and outside a supermarket are similar as there is little difference in context. What would be more challenging is inside a pub, for example ordering a drink (but I think someone has posted themselves naked in a beer garden with others about him?) or even more so, naked inside a supermarket doing your shopping (though I have seen pictures of people in France near a nudist beach just walking round a shop naked, as you do!)
::@Gary I’ll have no problem taking a photo of myself with a statue. It’s going to be a bit harder getting the statue into a lift!
::Anyway you can certainly start a new thread to post your statue photos and I’m sure that will spark some interest and other will try to do the same. Perhaps pictures of naked people trying to look like a statue?
::@SimplyCait If the statue were sufficiently life-like you might get away with it for the “Naked selfie with a member of the public” category! However, it looks like we are going to need some need categories soon, so suggest the “Naked with a statue category”. There are certainly soon historic houses around here with gardens filled with nude statues that are just crying out for someone to take a nude photo of themselves as a nude pair!
::Online media are only referring to harmful content to try to protect themselves. In “Western” cultures, originally, a lot of it has to do with the influence of Christianity and its attitude toward sexuality and nudity. Not to single out Christians, the reason why people tend to be more covered up in the Middle East (you don’t find many nudist beaches there) is due to Muslim culture. Basically, society is influenced greatly by religion. In the far East, for instance, communal bathing is common.
But the strange and worrying thing is that we gradually seem to be regressing in some ways from say the 1970s and it seems to be mainly to do with increased authoritarianism than people becoming more offended.
There are patterns of social norms that have strong affects. You will see topless women on pretty much all beaches around Europe. So why is it so rare to see it on UK beaches (where there are certainly no laws against being topless). I think it’s simply because it’s not the norm!
::I should have sent an email with them as jpg attachments. I think putting them inline in the message caused the problem.
::Thanks for putting my photos up. I think you might have missed out on some like:
At home
Clothes shop/department fitting room
Leisure centre, gym or pool changing rooms
Outside your housewhich I did send included in the body of the first email.
::I’ve been to a couple of Naked Bike rides. There is little to describe about what’s involved. You don’t have to sign up or anything. You just turn up at the starting point which is normally in a city park. Take off your clothes and put them in a rucksack and cycle round town. The only bizarre thing is simply taking your clothes of in a city park which will most likely have gathered the attention of many other clothed people who for some reason take their phones out and start taking photos!
