Some of you will be pleased to hear I have added two more Flicking Channel videos to the relevant page:
https://nakedexperiment.com/flicking-channels/
I still don’t properly know what to do with these videos, but I’m hoping they have some entertainment and humour value.

Have you tried Openshot? It seems to be similar to Corel Videostudio, which is what I use, but Openshot is free and still running in Windows 11 at the moment.

For a simple one second crossfade, it should only be necessary to trim the ends of the clips being joined (allowing for the duration of the crossfade), put the second clip on the same track as the first and drag it so that the second track overlaps the first track by one second. The overlap creates a crossfade between the two clips.
Your white noise transition could probably be done by trimming the first clip to the exact end point, adding the noise clip to the same track and sliding it until it snaps, then snapping the second clip on the same track.
Or, if the clips aren’t already trimmed, put the first clip on track 1 and the noise clip on track 2. Slide the noise clip so that it begins at the time you want it (it will hide anything behind). Then put the second clip on track 1 and slide that so that it starts at the correct point relative to the noise clip. But clips 1 and 2 shouldn’t overlap except within the length of the noise clip.

The noise clip I can do, but fades just aren’t working. On video studio I just place the cross fade (or any other transition) across the join between the two clips. With Openshot, that just gives me an instant overlay of the image displaued on the fade icon. There’s no fade, and the onces I would expect to be animated don’t animate.
It keep throwing me that the tracks are the opposite way around – I’ll get used to it. Are the text effects horrible, or am I doing something wrong?

Audio gives a further problem. Transitions only affect the video, not the audio. So you also have to right click the clip that’s ending, select volume > End of Clip > Fade Out (Fast or Slow). Similarly set the clip that’s beginning so that it fades in. It’s supposedly possible to adjust the duration numerically using keyframes, but I’ve not tried that.
I’ve not looked much at text effects either. There are a lot of examples at https://duckduckgo.com/?q=examples+of+text+effects+in+openshot&atb=v500-1&ia=videos&iax=videos.
