I planned to get a lot of work done here this evening, but a government emergency alert went off (telling us not to use barbecues) in Welsh and it almost bricked my phone. After three hours trying to get it running again, I gave up and did a factory reset. Now it’s going to take me a couple of days to get everything set up again.
Thank you, government.
I’ve now seen the alert about 20x (every time my phone reboots) and I’ve been reliably informed by fluent Welsh speakers that the Welsh audio is gibberish. It’s an American voice reading Welsh with English phonetics which, as you can imagine, doesn’t work at all.

I don’t even want to imagine how the Welsh language was torn to pieces.
The English version was bad enough

Apparently, the government is now worried about the number of people switching the service off! How can they be surprised?
I know loads of people who were scared by the sudden sound, sometimes in really inappropriate situations. Surely it should start quietly and slowly ramp up?

Now they are arguing about whether it should have been English or Welsh first. How about we make the Welsh into actual Welsh first? How about the siren noise ramps up rather than going instantly full volume and scaring people? How about the Welsh version states that English will follow, to help avoid confusion? Sorry, just me ranting.
We’ve got hill fires around here again. People were watching fire progressing down the hillside towards their houses when the alert went off and spouted gibberish at them. Consequently loads of people phoned 999 because they thought it might be telling them to evacuate but couldn’t understand the garbled message (and didn’t know another would follow 10-15 minutes later).

I never actually saw the English version, but I did get the Welsh version 4 times over the next few hours. I had to factory reset the phone just to stop the alert playing again every time I rebooted (that and none of my apps would run).
