I’ve now worked out how to set up a redirect from the old site subdomain to bring people here directly.

Assuming it works properly (and it seems to), anyone following outdated links to the old site will magically appear here without any error messages being displayed. Much more professional AND stops people thinking the site has gone.

That should help increase visitors a little.

Visitors are definitely up, around 20-25%. No increase in activity though 🙁

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>OK, in an effort to generate a bit of activity, interest, or even a “like” or two, here’s a revisit to a story I posted on the old community site.  A slightly expanded version as I toned down the original story a little but, here we are so what the hell.</span>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Very few members here will remember the stifling hot UK summer of 1976 – if you thought this past summer was hot, I’m sure 1976 was hotter?  So, in the middle of June, we’re having a bit of a family do at our house in suburban Surrey.  Family and friends are gathered out in our garden which, by today’s standards, was very long, with an apple and plum tree providing some relief from the sun and sweltering heat.  I’m in my teens, young, thin and, as an avid swimmer, with quite the little athletic physique.  My cousin Tam was there with his Mum and Dad, my auntie and uncle. Tam was a couple of years older than me but seemed much older. As the afternoon progressed into early evening, Tam, who had had a couple of beers, suggested we went up to my room and play a game or something as the party was getting a bit rowdy as the adults were all getting more lubricated!</span>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>We went up to my bedroom in the otherwise empty house – I had the smallest bedroom, with room just for my single bed, a chest of drawers and an in-built wardrobe that housed the hot water boiler. It was compact to say the least. Anyway, we went through my board games but nothing seemed to appeal, so we settled on playing cards on my bed. I sat with my legs stretched out and Tam sat at the end of the bed and we played a few games of Rummy which I inevitably lost. After about twenty minutes, with the room stifling hot even with the windows open, we were getting a bit bored. Without warning, Tam suddenly became fixated on one of my trainers and set about taking it off my outstretched foot. Being insanely ti

Apologies about the <formatting> errors…on the old site you could go back into a message and edit them out.  But the gist of the story is there!

You should be able to edit your own messages. You don’t get the “edit” link in the text menu? A few weeks back there was a huge discussion about that and we managed to get it fixed. It still works as far as I know. My test user can definitely edit his own messages.

No, nor can I delete the post and repost it without the formatting errors

Deletion is possible if you do it within about 10 minutes of the original post. Look for BIN which will appear alongside the reply link.

Also, if you paste as plain text text (right click menu) then you avoid such problems in the first place.

If I ever take the time to post another story (did anyone read this one?) then I’ll use the on-line editor.👍

Ed: “A few weeks back there was a huge discussion about that and we managed to get it fixed.”

From what I remember, there were two problems:

                          • it wasn’t possible to configure the editor in the age-restricted forums without it also becoming available in the unrestricted forums, and
                          • the editor permitted uploading photos, which can’t be allowed in the unrestricted forums

I thought we “solved” it by deciding that posts could not be edited. Instead, we should repost an edited version and then BIN (ie, delete) the original copy.

And to confirm: immediately after posting, I don’t have an edit link against that message, only the BIN option.

You’re right. It was that whole clash of systems thing, and I can confirm they have not fixed it.

I’m left with recommending either use the onsite editor or use “Paste as plain text” from the Windows copy buffer. I’m not sure if Android has the same option (I don’t use Android for web browsing).

If you post your stories into Notepad first, then copy them into the editor here, that will ensure you don’t get any formatting commands included.
